{"id":1,"date":"2017-11-01T21:51:08","date_gmt":"2017-11-01T21:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/?p=1"},"modified":"2017-11-16T08:24:52","modified_gmt":"2017-11-16T16:24:52","slug":"first-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/2017\/11\/01\/first-post\/","title":{"rendered":"80s Collage Critique"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In my opinion, the piece is well-done conceptually in emulating the 80s decade from the sticker-like images to the record in the center.\u00a0 The work has three noticeable layers: pop culture, space discovery, and the re-imagination of the 50s.\u00a0 The outer design reminds me of an interpretation of the novel <em>1984<\/em> with the concepts of censorship.\u00a0 It feels as though censorship is the major problem and all of the nostalgia and successes of the 80s are slowly fading away as they get smaller and smaller.\u00a0 The juxtaposition between the center circle of pop culture and the outer one of censorship conveys the difference between the utopian aspects of the time and the dystopian reminder of either the past or an expected future.\u00a0 As a whole, the piece looks like a cover for a record album, which adds to the theme of the 80s.\u00a0 The circles in the center are aesthetically pleasing as they imitate the look of a record.\u00a0 Elements, like the pacman border, add a sense of life and sentimentality to the collage.\u00a0 Although the sticker look of the pop culture cut-outs works well, an idea to try to advance the piece could be to make them appear as the patches that were seen on 80s clothes.\u00a0 In the bottom right corner, we discussed as a group the idea of putting a parental advisory image in that empty spot.\u00a0 I think it would add another element to the dystopian section and also further progress the album cover appearance.\u00a0 While the utopian area seems complete, the dystopian layer could have a few extra images to create more context into what is going on.\u00a0 However, the utilization of the faces of actors from the fifties with the censorship boxes furthers the concept of re-imagination of the time and creates contrast between the two decades, emphasizing the utopian feel of the 80s.\u00a0 The colors of the piece serve to bring all of the elements together with matching purples and pinks placed throughout the work.\u00a0 In the outer part of the design, the crumpled brown paper as a background adds texture to the piece, making it more dynamic.\u00a0 The piece is balanced in its arrangement of elements and the variation in the repetitive circle elements is interesting to look at.\u00a0 I think the collage is almost complete with a few minor elements that could be fixed or added to create an even more dynamic and interesting work of art.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":5913,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1],"tags":[],"wsuwp_university_category":[],"wsuwp_university_location":[],"wsuwp_university_org":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/5913"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=1"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":82,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1\/revisions\/82"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=1"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=1"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=1"},{"taxonomy":"wsuwp_university_category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/wsuwp_university_category?post=1"},{"taxonomy":"wsuwp_university_location","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/wsuwp_university_location?post=1"},{"taxonomy":"wsuwp_university_org","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/crimsonpages.org\/alexa-mckune\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/wsuwp_university_org?post=1"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
